The majority of the animals that Creature Quest keeps do not make good pets - at least for many people. They have very specific diets, long life spans, grow to large sizes, need to be cleaned daily, require daily handling and that's just to name a few things.
We ask you do all the necessary research before buying any pet and that you plan to keep it for the entirety of its natural life. If your circumstances do change, please do not abandon your pet in a local park or out in the country side - it will either be a guaranteed death sentence or would introduce a species into the habitat that could threaten our natural flora and fauna. Also please do not refuse it the necessities of life or out right kill it.
It is a privilege to have an animal share its life with you. It is very important to take care of this great gift if not for you, but for others. Many communities have or are planning to ban exotic animals. This happens when one person makes their pet a problem to the community and a few people panic because they (and/or owners of the animals) are not properly educated about exotic animals and their care. These kinds of bans vary in scope but in some cases could mean that even keeping something as harmless and wonderful as a leopard gecko or bearded dragon could become against the law in your community. So don't spoil it for others. Treat your animals well.
There are many options for pets you cannot keep any more. Ask friends, family, pet stores or zoos if they would be able to adopt your animal friend. Or try posting an ad on sites like kijiji.com or craigslist.com. If your animal is very friendly, healthy and you would be okay with it meeting many people through presentations, we do also take some animals depending on species and our available space.
